I’d seen the AntiOx bars in the supermarket (in the health food isle) before, but never really picked them up. Before I even read what was in them I opened up one of the snack bars (the Acai one) and bit into it…. “Yuk”. It definitely wasn’t as ‘sweet’ as what I thought it would be – definitely more bitter if you like that in your chocolate…
But the other two varieties (the Goji one and the Quinoa and Chia) were both delicious. My favourite was the Quinoa and Chia one, it was slightly crunchy and still had the sweetness of the chocolate.
The chocolates I actually preferred the Acai one which I was surprised about as I didn’t like the bar. It was a perfect evening pick-me-up with a cup of tea!
Now as the for the “good part” of these chockies and bars… They’re sweetened with stevia and are 70% dark chocolate – providing a few more antioxidants. They also made with “super fruits” – being goji berries and Acai, “super grains” – quinoa and wholegrains too.
Now people often ask why are ‘super’ foods ‘super foods’? They usually contain high levels of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. I’ll list a few below:
- Acai berries have a higher antioxidant quality than any other known berry (and twice as many antioxidants than blueberries).
- Goji berries are rich in vitamin C.
- Quinoa has a high protein content compared to other grains, and has more calcium than milk!
- Chia seeds contain high levels of Omega 3 (a great source of fat)
