Last week I had a cold all week, runny nose, sort throat, lethargic. The whole lot! I felt like rubbish for three days, and then on the fourth day (last Thursday) I finally took the day off work, and slept for like 12 hours! I really need it, and it felt so good to stay in my pajamas all day.
Then it was Easter, and easter eggs and relaxing, and sleep in’s (because I still had a cold). Brad and I went up to his parents farm and caught up with all his family – cousins, auntys’ and uncles’ – the whole shebang. Usually at Easter I go for a run, at least 5km – 10km depending on my level of fitness at the time. It’s so relaxing, and so good to get out in the fresh, country air. But there was no running for me this easter, heck I didn’t even take my gym gear with me. (Unheard of!)
My last day of exercise was 15.5 (and we all know how hard that was), and that was 12 days ago. Pretty much straight after that I came down with a cold, and I must say, it’s been a welcome change to come home from work (especially now that daylight savings has finished), and relax on the couch, blog, watch some TV and relax.
And then I slowly and slowly became less motivated to get out and exercise.
Now, going on 12 days without exercise and I’m feeling extremely relaxed, but unmotivated. This week my excuse has been that my nose is still runny and don’t want to risk getting a cough. Well it’s time that I suck it up and get back into the gym. I was **this close** to going to CrossFit tonight, but opted out – instead I’ll go Saturday morning and then start a fresh next week.
I often find that my training tends to naturally run in these cycles – pushing myself for a 6-8 weeks, and then naturally either scaling back my workouts or taking a few days off to rest. To get out of my funk most of the time, I just feel rested enough to get back into exercise and start getting a little anxious – and the need to move emerges. You know what I mean?
Anyway, this time I feel like I need a little extra push…. and that coincidentally came from one of my friends today in the form of a text message reminding me about a fun run I mentioned to her that she should join me in. It’s a trail hill run in Albury called Nail Can Hill fun run (I did it back in 2011), next minute she’d text me back saying she’d signed up. And then I did!!
The fun run is on in less than four weeks and between now and then I’ve gotta get moving again – back into CrossFit at least three times a week. I’m also adding in some hill sprint training, and longer runs to get my legs ticking over the milage again. I need to be comfortable – and if I want to run another 1/2 marathon later this year, I need to get serious about getting back into running again.
So here it goes again. Back on the bandwagon.
