We’re already three days into 2018. It feels like 2017 was a blur. Before I get into my plans for 2018,
Let’s recap 2017
For me it was a big year – I’d just renovated and moved into my new house with my partner, welcome two “iggys” (Italian Greyhound) puppies into our family, spent hours on our house, landscaping and painting.
I also got to see more of Australia – having two getaway’s to Noosa and Port Douglas in February and September respectively – as well as a trip to Mt Gambier with The Digital Picnic (pictured below is the stunning Blue Lake – gotta love ANY travel).
Fitness / health wise, I started the year working out with Kristy-lea Brown at The Queen of Lean, but after three back injuries in 8 months I decided to take a step back from the gym and focus on building my core strength. After a referral from my Osteo, Gaby at St Kilda Osteopathy I started going to Soul Pilates (reformer Pilates) in South Melbourne.
I’ve now been going to Soul Pilates once a week (now twice-a-week) since June and my core has never felt stronger! I decided to get back into running / hiit training (slowly) around October and joined Body Fit Training Yarraville. Since beginning, I can feel the difference Pilates has made on my body and I’m a total convert! I feel more balanced, even and stronger when performing other exercises in the gym – and over time have slowly been increasing my fitness.
Career wise, I was also approached by the talented ladies at The Digital Picnic to facilitate social media workshops for them and started training in October. With my first two workshops “under my belt” I’m feeling confident and capable in my abilities – and am forever thankful to Cat & Cherie who could see my capabilities before I could! I also smashed a heap of goals career wise at Sole Motive – including working on another successful Run Melbourne campaign.
Which leads me to my final “success” of 2017 – setting up my first business, Society State. I am grateful that my full time job has allowed my to drop back to part time so I can focus on 1. Presenting social media workshops for The Digital Picnic, 2. Work on exciting projects for North of Here (more news to come) and 3. Set up my own freelance business.
Two months into this juggling process I have never been happier. I honestly feel I have an amazing balance – and loving the mix of working on a side hustle (North of Here), building my own business and “brand” as well as still giving back to my work and managing communications & marketing for a bunch of amazing running events in Victoria.
What does 2018 hold for me?
This is where I’m starting the year, as I intend to finish it. ;) Focusing on my goals, and using them to prioritise my time, energy and focus.
This year one of my aims is to focus on my loved ones – celebrating and loving them, as well as expanding my friendship circle. I’ve moved around a bit the last few years, and can count on my hands the few good friends I have. This year, I want to get out of my comfort zone and make some great new friends – and I’m not afraid to share that!
My partner and I have been together for quite a long time. This year is ours to celebrate that time, take time to ourselves and appreciating each other a hell of a lot more.
Travel will be reduced this year to just an overseas family holiday in September, as I turn to focusing on saving for future house renovations and overseas travel in 2019 (2019 is gunna be HUGE!). Meanwhile… I’m currently writing this post from a hire car while driving from Boat Harbour to Coffs Harbour – mini New Year’s break with my partner.
Health & Fitness
Last year, without knowing it – was a time to work out what works for my body, what I *really* enjoying doing (how I like to move / keep fit), as well as rehabilitation to *finally* get my back better.
In 2018, my aim is continue Body Fit Training and get back into running – this time, not long distance, keeping my runs to 10k and under. I’ll get a Dexa scan done in January with an initial aim to drop body fat and build fitness in the first half of the year.
When it comes to running, I want to get into park runs and aim to do at least one each month, with an aim to get my 5k time under 26 minutes. I’m also going to check out local run groups / run clubs and meet up with others for runs. If you’re keen to join me, get in touch!
My runs I’ll be signing up for:
> 18 Feb, City 2 City (Albury) – 10k
> 25 Feb, River Run, Geelong – 10k
> 18 March, Run 4 the Kids – 15.3k
> 19 May, Great Ocean Road Running Festival – 14k
> 14 October, Melbourne Marathon Festival – 10k
It’s going to be a BIG year! Constantly learning and evolving is the way digital marketing works, and this year will be no different. As I teach workshops for the Digital Picnic each month, I know 2018 will be a year I learn more than ever. I love that this new “job” (it’s not really a job – I love it and HAVE FUN!) forces me to keep on top of digital marketing and social m8edia trends and developments – allowing me to become the best digital marketer I can be.
For my business – I’ve got even bigger goals that I can’t wait to absolutely kick out of the park! Think financial goals, website & social media – as well as personal development in terms of presenting/speaking opportunities and more!
North of Here
I’m putting this out there. Last year, I hardly wrote a blog post for North of Here. There were only 13 new posts throughout the whole year, with four coming from contributors Nicole & Chloe. This year is going to be bigger and see the website transform into something better than ever!
There will be regular posts coming from myself and my contributor, Nicole as well as a new contributor to be announced shortly! ;) I’m going to be doing more video content and posting more exclusive content to Facebook as well as updating Instagram too!
For those of you reading who live in Melbourne – it’s time to get excited! Stay tuned as I’m aiming to run my first ever North of Here event (it’s still a work in progress – so I’d love to hear your feedback as to what you’d like to experience).
So that’s my 2018 – what’s on your vision board / goal list for the year?
